Adam Smith’s Free Market Ideas: Shaping Policy Dynamics in the Modern World
On November 9, 2023 (Thursday, 10:00–11:30 CET), the Croatian think tank Centre for Public Policy and Economic Analysis (CEA) and the Zagreb School of Economics and Management (ZSEM) invite you to mark 300 years since the birth of Adam Smith.
The legacy
Known as the father of economics and modern capitalism, Adam Smith is one of the most notable political-economic and moral philosophers of the 18th-century Scottish Enlightenment.
In fact, the interdisciplinary nature of Adam Smith’s free market ideas influenced many public policies and reforms in developed countries, as seen in their levels of economic freedom and standards of living.
Therefore, the panel will discuss the legacy and public policy implications of his classical free-market ideas, deeply based on the moral philosophy of the Scottish Enlightenment. In particular, the panel will focus on his two notable books, The Wealth of Nations and The Theory of Moral Sentiments.
The Panel
The panelists will be:
- Eamonn Butler, Ph.D., Founder and Director of the Adam Smith Institute (UK), online presence
- Vedrana Pribičević, MA, Senior Lecturer at ZSEM
- Andrej Grubišić, Ph.D., GRUBISIC & Partners Corporate Finance
Also, the moderator will be Goran Vojković, an associate professor at the University of Zagreb and the University of North.
