The 33rd Economic Forum ‘Time of New Leaders – Shaping the Future Together’ was organized in September 2024 in Karpacz (Poland) by the Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies.
It is the biggest conference in Central and Eastern Europe. For more than 30 years, it has been attracting political, economic, and social leaders from all over the world. The unique climate of the event fosters the development of cooperation between EU Member States and their neighbors. Important declarations are made at the Forum every year, which is why the debates are followed with the greatest interest by media from all over the world, and their echoes resound in expert and political circles long after the Forum ends.
Many business, policy, and other stakeholders gathered to discuss the current economic and political situation in the EU and the world. The emphasis was on the war in Ukraine and the consequences of the upcoming elections in the US.
Increase defense investments
Emil Pavić represented the Centre for Public Policy and Economic Analysis (CEA). The topic of the forum was “Transatlantic Relations on the Eve of the US Presidential Election – What Lies Ahead?”
On behalf of the CEA, Emil Pavić expressed positions regarding the necessity of increasing defense investments in the EU. It is also important to continue providing support to Ukraine to stop Russian aggression and achieve the conditions for a long-term and sustainable peace. Regardless of the future US president, US foreign policy remains committed to the EU and NATO.
The prevailing conclusion is that the EU has no alternative in cooperation and development and that it is necessary to do everything to stop the war in Ukraine and to achieve a long-lasting and just peace that will enable development and prosperity.
The US elections are probably a key political event that will largely determine the future of geopolitics at the global level. All the participants of the panel agreed on the key points, which are the strengthening of democracy. The war in Ukraine has disrupted international relations and is a threat to global peace.
